What Catholic Bible Do You Prefer

I have a few different bibles that I like to read. My favorite is the New American Bible Saint Joseph Edition. It has a good amount of information in it. It is also very easy to read. I have gone to it many times to look up some information or to read a certain passage. This link can provide some interesting information on Catholic Bibles http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Bible . Here is another helpful site on choosing a Catholic Bible http://www.americancatholic.org/Newsletters/CU/ac0704.asp .

Another Catholic bible that I have is the Good News Bible for Catholics. It is a little bit smaller in size than the bible mentioned above. This version was made so most English speaking people could easily understand it. It does get used by catholic bible study groups. Although the way that it was written may annoy some people.

The third catholic bible that I have is called The New American Bible. This was the bible that was given to my wife and I when she went through the RCIA education before entering the Catholic Church. It is very good for bible study, youth ministries, high schools and universities. It seems to provide a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith.

There are some Catholic bibles that I sometimes go online on the internet to read. They are the Douay Rheims, The New American Bible Revised Edition and the New Jerusalem Bible.  The Douay Rheims Bible was completed in 1609 in Rheims France. Some interesting information can be found at this link http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?id=4300&CFID=25686155&CFTOKEN=70247539 . The New American Bible Revised Edition was released on march 9, 2011 and consists of 20 years of work by over 100 scholars and theologians. The New Jerusalem Bible is translated directly from the Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic.  The nice thing about this is that there will be various words in red. Clicking on those will give information about whatever it is.

I would just be aware that some bibles are meant for more serious study and may be difficult for the general reader to understand. Some bibles do not use the traditional renderings of certain passages. This can become very annoying to the person reading. The Good News Bible is known for this.
I would also be wary of some of the other bibles that protestants and other groups use. I have heard many times certain groups say that the King James Version is the only true version. The King James Version was actually compiled by a Catholic called Erasmus. He was a very Saintly person. Basically there are no perfect manuscripts. There are other bibles that I would not read such as the book of Mormon and the Jehovah  Witness New World Translation. Here is some interesting reading about the Book of Mormon http://www.catholic.com/tracts/problems-with-the-book-of-mormon . Check out this link about the New World Translation Bible http://www.catholic.com/quickquestions/what-can-you-tell-me-about-the-new-world-translation . Basically the problem is that certain bibles were written to suite the doctrines of that group.

As a final thought I would seek out the bible that will fit your circumstances. In other words for general reading or bible study groups or for whatever your purpose.
Thank You for reading and God Bless. All comments are welcomed.
