Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration what is it. Eucharistic Adoration is when the blessed sacrament is set up on the altar and exposed. This is so the faithful can pray and adore it. Adoration is a sign of worship and love for Jesus Christ. It is also a time when the faithful can be quiet and alone with Jesus and meditate in prayer. This when Jesus Christ is present in Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

When the host is exposed for a twenty four hour period it is called perpetual adoration. Eucharistic Adoration was started in Italy by Saint Francis of Assisi. This was spread to all parts of Italy by the Franciscans. Pope Gregory the VII prepared the theological basis for the Eucharistic Adoration. This was in the 11th century. He affirmed the tenet the Christ was actually present blessed sacrament.

At the moment when the Priest invokes the consecration the holy bread is transformed into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. This is called Transubstantiation. The practice of daily adoration has been a practice and has been encouraged in the Catholic church. The practice of Eucharistic Adoration has been encouraged by the Popes since the Middle Ages.
