Who And What Is The Holy Spirit

  So exactly who is the holy spirit and what is the holy spirit. The Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is the third person in the blessed trinity. The Holy Spirit has been there since the very beginning. We see mention of the Holy Spirit in Genesis chapter 1 verse 2.
1 In the beginning God created heaven and earth.
2 Now the earth was a formless void, there was darkness over the deep, with a divine wind sweeping over the waters.

   The Holy Spirit is called the Paraclete. The word Paraclete when translated into English can be advocate, helper, counselor, encourager and also comforter. The Holy Spirit is also known as the Spirit Of truth, The Spirit Of God and also the Spirit Of Truth. In Matthew chapter 4 verse 1 we see that the Holy Spirit led Jesus through the desert where he would fast for 40 days and nights.
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the desert to be put to the test by the devil.
2 He fasted for forty days and forty nights, after which he was hungry
  We also see in Acts chapter 2 where the Holy Spirit came in as the sound of a violent wind and the appeared as tongues of fire over each of their heads.  This is known as Pentecost.
1 When Pentecost day came round, they had all met together,
2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which filled the entire house in which they were sitting;
3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them.
4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave them power to express themselves.

  We receive the  sacrament of confirmation to give us strength to fight the powers of evil. We receive various gifts from the Holy Spirit. Although not everyone has the same gifts. Here is a link about confirmation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_(Catholic_Church) .

  The Holy Spirit will guide us through all truth. This can be seen in John chapter 16 verse 13.
13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he will not be speaking of his own accord, but will say only what he has been told; and he will reveal to you the things to come.
14 He will glorify me, since all he reveals to you will be taken from what is mine.
   Some of the symbols of the Holy Spirit are water. We see this as action of the Holy Spirit in Baptism. Oil is another symbol of the Holy Spirit. The anointing of oil signifies the Holy Spirit. Fire is another symbol of the Holy Spirit. The fire symbolizes the transforming of the power of the Holy Spirit. Cloud and light are also symbols of the Holy Spirit, which are generally used in manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Other symbols are the hand, the finger and the dove.

  My advise is to search the internet for any teaching on the Holy Spirit. There is a lot of information out there. I would just make sure you look for it done by Catholics. If you read another churches information you get mislead.
  Well thank you for reading and God Bless.
